Vițele de vie din care provine au fost plantate în 1978 în Barbaresco și este primul Cabernet Sauvignon din Piedmont de la invazia phylloxerei în secolul al XIX-lea. Decizia lui Angelo Gaja de a planta Cabernet Sauvignon demonstrează potențialul solului de a produce vinuri de cea mai buna calitate, chiar și din soiuri netradiționale.
