J. Lohr Archives - VINIMONDO

J. Lohr

Founded five decades ago, this family winery, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, has established itself as one of the most respected wine producers in the United States. In the late 1960s, Jerry Lohr began an extensive investigation of California's wine regions, looking for the ideal location for his first vineyard. Jerry grew up on a farm in South Dakota, and his roots have given him extensive knowledge of the relationship between climate, soil and location. His research and instinct led him to the Central Coast, an area that was just beginning to exploit its potential for viticulture. In the early 1970s, Jerry Lohr first planted vines in the Arroyo Seco district of Monterey. In the 1980s, he saw the potential of a great Cabernet Sauvignon in the Paso Robles region and began developing vineyards there. Jerry Lohr's outstanding career continues today in close partnership with his children Steve, Cynthia and Lawrence, who are co-owners. J. Lohr, which has become one of America's favorite wineries, with state-of-the-art winemaking facilities in San Jose, Greenfield and Paso Robles, is preparing for its next exciting chapter.
