Se spune că în urma unei degustări de Le Pin, un vin faimos și foarte scump din Pomerol, Jean-Luc Thunevin și-a propus să facă la rândul său un vin excepțional. Datorită pasiunii pentru vin, precum și determinării sale, apare în 1991 primul vintage Château Valandraud.
