Tignanello este o piatră de hotar, fiind primul Sangiovese care a fost maturat în barriques și primul vin roșu contemporan amestecat cu soiuri netradiționale (în special Cabernet). Este și unul dintre primele vinuri roșii din regiunea Chianti Classico pentru care nu s-au folosit struguri albi, fiind o selecție de Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon și Cabernet Franc.
